ED (Emergency Department)
Radiology Rotation

Expectations of Residents in the ED Radiology Rotation

Each first year resident spends four weeks (in two-week blocks) on the Bellevue Hospital emergency radiology service. The workday is from 8am to 5pm, with the first several hours devoted to review of the previous night's cases.

Residents are responsible for reading and dictating all emergency, trauma, and urgent care radiographs as well as portable chest radiographs from the surgical and cardiac intensive care units. All studies from polytrauma patients, including computed tomography, are read by the emergency service with residents participating in advanced image interpretation as appropriate.

Second and third year residents when on call report all overnight CT scans performed in the emergency rooms at Tisch and at the manhattan VA. Emergency division faculty attend in the reading room and review residents' preliminary dictations of all emergent scans performed between 5 pm and 1 am.
