Experience is obtained at Tisch Hospital and Bellevue Hospital. Rotations include GI fluoroscopy, CT and Ultrasound as separate 4 week blocks. First and second year residents learn the art of fluoroscopy at Bellevue Hospital. The first year abdominal imaging experience includes spending 2 days/week observing attendings perform fluoroscopic procedures on outpatients and receiving 1-on-1 introduction to abdominal CT interpretation. The first year rotation has been expanded to incorporate Chest CT training as well. Third and fourth year residents assigned to Bellevue and Tisch CT and US are expected to shoulder primary responsibility for interactions with referring clinicians. Residents assigned to Tisch Hospital CT also perform barium studies and fluoroscopic guidance for swallowing. The residents are expected to appropriately protocol each case, prioritize cases in relation to clinical need. The residents on CT are expected to become thoroughly grounded in technical aspects of helical (spiral) CT, use of workstations, 3-D imaging technique. On ultrasound rotations, residents receive direct attending supervision and are expected to develop manual dexterity in performing ultrasound studies. Residents are expected to participate in all intraoperative cases.
