Expectations of Residents in the Chest Rotation
Modified curriculum from the Society of Thoracic Radiology (STR) (PDF)

Residents begin their education in chest radiology by reviewing routine chest films. The program quickly moves to the interpretation of CT including high-resolution techniques. All interpretation is performed using digital imaging on a PACS with additional recourse to stand-alone workstations for evaluation with proprietary software platforms and also research evaluation tools.

Both residents rotating through Bellevue and those at Tisch participate in Friday 7:30am conferences with staff from the Bellevue Division of Chest Medicine at Bellevue . This meeting is held at 12:00 pm on the third Friday of every month. The residents also attend a Tuesday 7:30 am weekly multidisciplinary lung cancer meeting at Tisch Hospital, including pulmonologists, radiotherapists, oncologists, surgeons, pathologists and palliative care physicians who collaborate with our section and the department of nuclear medicine in discussing the management of lung cancer in individual patients. On a daily basis we have excellent clinico-pathological correlation of our cases with numerous consultations with staff from these services.

There is a dedicated chest tutorial run by Dr Vlahos approximately every 2 weeks on Thursday mornings 7:15-8:30 . The precise schedules for these meetings is held by the Chest Radiology secretary Kristin Gelpi (x35229).

Throughout their training, residents confront a multiplicity of pathological processes and learn to interpret complicated, unusual cases.
