Evaluations
There is a formal means for faculty to evaluate residents and for residents to evaluate the training program.
The residents receive feedback on a regular basis to help guide them through the training process. Although the residents are required to formally meet with the program director and evaluate the program at least twice a year, informal meetings and/or conversations occur on an ongoing basis, discussing both positive and negative aspects of the program. Residents meet with the Vice Chair of Education during February and March to help identify exceptional faculty or point out deficiencies in individual rotations. During that meeting, each resident is assigned a faculty mentor who specifically helps with career decisions and post graduate training. The Chairman and the Program Director alternate months meeting with the residents as a group. The goal is to have a continually growing and improving residency program and residents that feel comfortable with their training and program.
Residents are required to take the in-service examination prepared by the American College of Radiology. This examination is intended for resident self-evaluation, and is not used by the program to assign grades or rank status. Summary Information from this examination is passed to section chiefs; and faculty are challenged to remedy any teaching deficiencies.
All of our residents elect to take the Board Examination administered by the American Board of Radiology. Our resident schedules and conferences have been reorganized to meet the altered eligibility timing of the Board Examination components.
