Currently, the entire complex (Tisch Hospital, Faculty Practice Radiology, Bellevue Hospital and the Manhattan VA) possesses a large number of high technology imaging equipment. There are 13 CT scanners (7 multislice; 1 dedicated research), 9 MRI (1 clinical and 2 research 3T), 9 digital angiography rooms and 11 ultrasound units. Both Bellevue and Tisch have added multislice CT scanners into their Emergency Rooms. The Hospital for Joint Diseases has 1 multislice and 1 MRI.

The Department of Radiology is undergoing a total transformation which will result in its becoming one of the best equipped Radiology facilities in the world. This is facilitated through our association with Siemens Medical Solutions at Tisch Hospital and its outpatient facilities. Because of the scope of the initiative, it is expected that it will take 4 years to install all of the equipment. Significant progress has been made.
Tisch Hospital

Tisch Hospital has installed an entire new imaging suite adjacent to the ER. The suite contains a Siemens Sensation 16 Multislice CT, a digital radiography (DR) room, a computed radiography (CR) room and an Acuson Sequoia ultrasound unit. A new resident on-call room is located there as well. In the hospital, one DR suite, a multipurpose digital fluoro, which can be used for angiography, one biplane digital neuroradiology special procedure suite, 2 Acuson sequoia ultrasound units, an Acuson Antares ultrasound unit, 4 C-arm units, 3 new portable xray units, three laser printers and one film digitizer will be installed. The current hospital MR is currently being upgraded to a Siemens 1.5T Sonata. A new large FOV SPECT nuclear camera will be added.
Faculty Practice Radiology
In the outpatient department, a Sensation 16 multislice CT scanner has been delivered and will be running October 2003. Additionally one DR room, one Antares ultrasound and one Sequoia Ultrasound will be added. These will be operational by February 2004, Three outpatient magnets will be upgraded to Siemens 1.5T Sonata and one will be upgraded to a 3T Allegra. The NYU Cancer Center is scheduled to open in June of 2004. A Siemens Biograph CT-PET unit will be located in this facility.
Tisch and Faculty Practice radiology will be linked via a SieNet PACS network. PACS workstations are fully implemented in the department (with the exception of nuclear medicine and ultrasound). This phase of rollout is anticipated to be completed by end 2003. Virtually all other studies acquired with digital imaging devices are read on PACS
ResearchBellevue Hospital
Bellevue Hospital has 4 CT scanners (2 multislice), 4 ultrasound machines and one Siemens 1.5 T MRI. Bellevue radiology is “filmless” operating on a Philips PACS.
