Conferences - Intramural
Resident conferences fall into five categories. The Midday/Noon Conference is generally in the Socratic (case discussion) style; the residents at all levels of training are required to analyze unknown cases within a subspecialty; noon conferences are didactic when appropriate. Attendance for all residents is mandatory.
Subspecialty Conferences are generally held at 7:30 AM or 5:00 PM. Attendance is mandatory for those on the subspecialty rotation, but open to all residents and fellows. These conferences are generally case presentation conferences, and require that residents on the appropriate rotations prepare, present and discuss the cases. These conferences are less formal than noon conference where lively discussions are featured between faculty and residents. These conferences include a weekly Tuesday Abdominal Imaging Confrence (Body Club). The sections of Musculoskeletal Imaging, Chest Imaging and Cardiac Imaging host an alternating conference on Monday afternoons. A weekly ultrasound conference is given at 7:30 AM on Wednesdays. A weekly MR physics conference is given on Thursday mornings. Weekly neuroradiology rounds are given at 7:30 AM. A monthly head and neck conference is given on Thursdays. Pediatrics conducts biweekly tumor board conference, biweekly pediatric interesting case conference and weekly pediatric cardiovascular conference.
Residents and fellows may be asked to prepare and present cases during clinical rounds such as those held by Pediatrics, Surgery, Neurosurgery.
The radiology faculty, fellow or senior resident usually present cases discussed at the combined radiology-clinical specialty conferences. The junior residents may participate as appropriate.
Physics conferences are didactic in nature and attended by residents in preparation for the Board examination. Progress is gauged by examinations administered over periodic intervals. Residents take the RAPHEX examination. This test developed by the New York City Radiology Physicists has a high predictive value for performance on the physics portion of the ABR.
Departmental Staff Meetings are monthly meetings attended by all faculty and house staff. Departmental quality assurance, administrative, clinical and training issues are presented and discussed. Attendance is mandatory.
