AFIP
The radiology department provides funding to cover the cost of attending the AFIP (www.afip.org) and a $1500.00 stipend for housing. Those residents who do not attend the AFIP are required to complete a six week elective at the Medical Center, conducted in conjunction with the department of pathology. The resident is required to participate in the daily activities of the pathology department, pull the relevant radiologic studies, correlate them with the pathologic specimens, and then present the material to the radiology department on a weekly or biweekly basis. These cases, with appropriate explanatory documentation, become part of our departmental Radiology-Pathology teaching library.
RSNA
The Department of Radiology funds trips made to the Radiological Society of
North America Annual Meeting (RSNA). Residents or fellows presenting papers
or having well defined research interests are encouraged to attend the meeting
and receive funding. We have been fortunate in that our residents have frequently
been selected to participate in the "Introduction to Research" program
sponsored by the RSNA, Association of University Radiologists (AUR) and the
American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS).
It is important to note that resident participation in meetings is not limited to the RSNA but includes any appropriate society meeting.
A3CR2
Our Chief Residents attend the annual meeting of the American Association
of Academic Chief Residents in Radiology (A3CR2). They summarize
the activities and discussions of the meeting in a report presented
to the program director. The program director presents the report
to the faculty, and discusses pertinent issues with the residents.
Suggestions/changes are integrated into our program as deemed appropriate
by the faculty and residents.
