Fellowships (Post-Residency Intensive Training)

The department of Radiology offers both ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) and Non-ACGME approved fellowships. Those fellowships which are NON-ACGME are currently not mandated to obtain this level of credentialing.

NYU offers the following 4 ACGME approved fellowships: Neuroradiology; Interventional Radiology; Musculoskeletal Imaging and Nuclear Medicine.

The ACGME now recognizes four radiologic subspecialties for which the American Board of Radiology (ABR) offers Certificates of Added Qualification (CAQ) to candidates who successfully complete an accredited fellowship and pass the ABR CAQ examination. We have accredited fellowship training for three of the subspecialties for which CAQs are offered: Neuroradiology; Interventional Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.

Our Non-ACGME fellowships currently offered include Neurointerventional Radiology, Breast Imaging , Thoracic Imaging, Body MR Imaging, Women's Imaging, PET/CT and Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging. Program components are listed on the individual fellowship pages.

Please note: NYU Medical Center no longer recognizes the title of “Fellow.” Post-residency training in ACGME accredited programs is now called “Intensive Specialized Study.” Post-residency trainees in NON-ACGME programs will receive credit for a year of “Intensive Subspecialty Training” through the department. The changes have no impact on the curriculum delivered nor on your C.V.

Some but not all of the NYU Medical Center Department of Radiology Fellowships will be paticipating in the NRMP matching program. This includes both ACGME and non-ACGME programs. Those fellowships in the match are: Neuroradiology and Vascular-Interventional Radiology. The Thoracic, Breast Imaging, Women's Imaging, Musculoskeletal, Body MR Imaging, Neurointerventional, Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT fellowships are considering candidates outside of the match only. The schedule for applying to fellowships in the match can be found on the NRMP website: http://www.nrmp.org/fellow/schedule.html.
