Welcome to the department of Radiology Newsletter
There is much change occurring in Radiology and throughout the entire medical center. This is a most exciting time to be at NYU, in New York, and involved with Radiology. Over the next 4 or so years the Department will be transformed by our Strategic Partnership with Siemens. We are embarking on many new programmatic initiatives that will propel Radiology to unprecedented heights. We shall highlight them in future publications. I have been asked many times about what it is like to be at NYU. Just for the record – it is a remarkable institution. I am impressed by the work ethic of the entire organization. There is a can-do attitude that differentiates it from most other peer institutions. The staff, at all levels, is composed of dedicated professionals. They are committed to patient care and are concerned for their fellow workers. Most academic Radiology Departments contain outstanding individuals, however, ours is a place where individuals do, indeed, matter. It is much less about “me” and much more about “us”. One positive aspect of September 11th was that it reminded us that we are all linked inextricably. Success is related and proportional to our efforts as a team. Failure to recognize and acknowledge this limits our potential. All the members of the team deserve credit for positive accomplishments. Nothing is achieved without a cast of dedicated individuals performing important roles. In all of our endeavors we shall make every effort to recognize this fact. My goal for Radiology is straightforward – to transform NYU into the best Department in the world. It is a lofty and worthy aspiration and will consume much of my energy. We desire to be preeminent in clinical care, education, and research. Decision making will be targeted to achieve this objective. Can we create a nurturing environment and, at the same time, have the drive necessary to compete at the highest level? The answer is a resounding yes. Our strength and determination emanates from core values. People matter and when empowered they can be expected to perform at an extraordinary level. Here’s to a most successful run! Bob
