The Department of Radiology at NYU continues to expand beyond the walls of the NYU-Tisch Hospital, as we enlarge the range of services we provide to the community in the lower Eastern quadrant of Manhattan. We have established imaging outposts in many off-site strategic locations.

The Musculoskeletal Section (MSK), headed by Dr. Mark Schweitzer, calls the New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases (NYU-HJD) at Second Avenue and 17th Street home base (Fig. 1), although this group provides MSK expertise for all the hospitals and outpatient offices in the NYU network. NYU radiology provides all imaging for this specialty hospital, with equipment that includes a multi-detector CT scanner and a 1.5T MR.

The MSK group also has an Orthopedic Faculty Practice Office adjacent to NYU-HJD, at 240 East 18th Street (Fig. 2). Equipment at this facility is currently being upgraded to include 3 Siemens digital radiography rooms and two conventional x-ray rooms with computed radiography.

Dr. Hilde Toth and the Breast Imaging Section have relocated to the new NYU Clinical Cancer Center, at 160 East 34th Street, between Second and Third Avenues (Fig. 3). This state-of-the-art NYU radiology facility offers comprehensive breast screening and diagnosis, with a full complement of mammographic ultrasound and radiographic capabilities. Rounding out this facility will be a Siemens open bore 1.5 T MRI system, dedicated to Breast Imaging.

Bellevue Hospital, long the revered flagship of NYC’s Health and Hospitals Corporation, is the venerated second headquarters for NYU Radiology. We are very excited to be moving into our new, and greatly expanded, Outpatient Imaging Center (Fig. 4) on First Avenue, just west of the main hospital.

NYU Radiology was asked to assume responsibility for the direct administration and management of the Department of Radiology at the VA New York Harbor Healthcare Systems—Manhattan campus in the fall of 2003 (Fig. 5). Under the direction of Dr. Steven Ciabattoni this effort is an important part of our teaching and service mission. The department currently boasts, among other outstanding equipment, a 16 detector CT and a 1.5 T MR. We are extremely proud to provide the optimum in imaging to our veterans.
