An Image of Our Benefactors
A vital ingredient to the pursuit of academic greatness in leading medical centers such as NYU is philanthropy. Such support enables the creation of a dynamic legacy for both donors and department. We have benefited from such critical philanthropic support from two generous, loyal, and steadfast donors, Louis Marx, Jr. and Bernard L. Schwartz, both NYU Medical Center Trustees for some 20 years. Their commitment to our department has assured its incandescent future.

Louis Marx, Jr.

Louis Marx, Jr., President and CEO of Brae Capital Corporation, has a long and dedicated history of commitment to NYU Medical Center. Since joining the Board of Trustees in 1985, he has provided NYU’s faculty and students with the means to conduct vital medical research that drives the discovery of treatments and cures for the world’s most devastating health concerns. In recognition of his generosity The Louis Marx, Jr. Emergency Room was named in his honor. Most recently, he endowed a professorship in the Department of Radiology, The Louis Marx Professor and Chair of Radiology. Dr. Robert I. Grossman is the first to hold this esteemed position. With this important endowment, Mr. Marx assures the continued growth and success of NYU Radiology, acknowledging the value of supporting one of the most fundamental and rapidly evolving fields in medicine today. In recognition of his outstanding dedication, NYU Medical Center honored Louis Marx, Jr. at its annual 1841/John Revere Society luncheon on May 18, 2005 at the Regency Hotel.

Bernard L. Schwartz

Bernard L. Schwartz, Chairman and CEO of Loral Space & Communications, has been an active and dedicated Trustee of the Medical Center for two decades, demonstrating a remarkable devotion to our institution. Following years of steadfast support, he and his wife, Irene, reinforced their commitment with a gift to the NYU Department of Radiology, creating The Bernard and Irene Schwartz Neurointerventional Radiology Center. This facility establishes the foundation for an ever-expanding venture in interventional neuroradiology. State-of-the-art technology allows minimally invasive procedures in place of traditional neurosurgery, ensuring the safety, comfort, and faster recovery of our patients. Additionally, this facility will allow the development and implementation of endovascular devices and innovative procedures. The Schwartz’ history of support includes The Bernard Schwartz Program in Structural Biology and The Bernard Schwartz Program in Humanistic Medicine in the Skirball Institute for Biomolecular Research, as well as gifts to the Departments of Dermatology and Urology. To acknowledge his exceptional commitment to the Medical Center’s many programs of excellence Mr. Schwartz will be honored at this year’s Second Annual Gala of NYU Medical Center, an event celebrating our Imaging Program.

NYU is able to lead the way in the crucial and groundbreaking field of radiology largely because of contributions from generous and enthusiastic supporters like Louis Marx, Jr. and Bernard Schwartz. With such strong philanthropic partners the Department of Radiology has been endowed with an environment within which we will continue to improve the health of our country and advance medical science into the 21st century.
