Buspirone: Summary

Notes:

• Buspirone is a 5-HT1A partial agonist.
• Open-label studies and case reports suggest that buspirone potentiates the antidepressant activity of such SSRIs as fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, and paroxetine; the TCA clomipramine; and trazodone.
• Double-blind studies are needed to further establish the efficacy and safety of buspirone as an augmentation agent.
