Notes:
HAM-D Responses on
Pindolol and Trimipramine, Fluvoxamine, or Buspirone
- The combination
of pindolol and TCAs resulted in only one patient improving by 50% after
28 days.
- The combination
of pindolol and the SSRI produced a marked antidepressant effect. After
14 days, four patients improved by 50%, and all patients improved more
than 50% after 28 days.
- The best results
were obtained with the pindolol-buspirone combination. After 7 days,
eight patients improved more than 50%, and all patients had a HAM-D
score <9 after 14 days.
- These results
suggest that pindolol may accelerate the antidepressant effect of drugs,
which affect 5-HT neurons.
- The selective
activation of postsynaptic 5-HT1A receptors by buspirone in the presence
of the presynaptic 5-HT1A antagonist pindolol appears to induce a rapid
and robust antidepressant response.
