
Notes:
- An open study
was conducted to evaluate the effect of addition of the 5-HT1A autoreceptor
antagonist, pindolol, to buspirone, SSRI medication, or TCAs in patients
with unipolar major depression.
- In addition to
pindolol (2.5 mg tid), the three treatment groups comprised of 10 patients
received one of the following antidepressant regimens:
- Group 1: Patients
received the 5-HT partial agonist, buspirone, 20 mg/d for 1 week
followed by 30 mg/d thereafter.
- Group 2: Patients
received the 5-HT reuptake inhibitor, fluvoxamine, 50 mg/d for the
first week and 100 mg/d thereafter.
- Group 3: Patients
received the TCAs that do not affect 5-HT uptake desipramine or
trimipramine, 75 mg for the first week and 150 mg/d thereafter.
- The treatment
duration for all three groups was 28 days.
