Buspirone Augmentation of SSRIs in Refractory Depression: Open-Label Study

Notes:

• Joffe and Schuller (1993) have reported one of the largest series of patients to receive buspirone augmentation.
• Buspirone efficacy was evaluated in 25 patients with major depression who had failed several antidepressant trials with the SSRIs fluoxetine (20 to 40 mg/d) or fluvoxamine (50 to 100 mg/d).
• Seventeen of 25 patients (68%) showed a marked or complete response 3 weeks after a buspirone addition of 20 to 50 mg/d.
