Notes:
Response to Treatment
With Buspirone or Placebo for Individual HAM-D Symptoms
- Although all symptoms
tended to improve with buspirone treatment, improvement was statistically
significant (P<0.05) for nine of the 25 individual symptoms:
- Depressed
mood ó Agitation
- Work and
interest ó Psychic anxiety
- Guilt feelings ó Anergia
- Difficulty
staying asleep ó Loss of insight
- Diurnal variation
- The most impressive
changes were noted for two core symptoms: depressed mood and work and
interest.
- The study found
that patients suffering a melancholic-type major depression experienced
greater improvement with buspirone than with placebo.
- Patients with
higher symptom severity scores also responded better to buspirone
than to placebo.
- Significant improvement
was observed as early as Week 1.
