The primary function of the committee is to serve as a liaison between IPE and NYU Langone Medical Center -- coordinating the teaching and supervision of clinical psychoanalytic concepts to psychiatric residents, fellows, and medical students. The committee relies on IPE Faculty and selected candidates to help with a variety of liaison activities. For NYU psychiatric residents these efforts include providing dynamic psychotherapy supervision; teaching inpatient clinical conferences; developing and teaching courses in the residency curriculum; running process groups; offering courtesy consultations; conducting open houses about psychoanalytic training; interviewing applicants for the residency; and mentoring functions. For NYU and visiting medical students we offer electives in Psychoanalytic Medicine and serve as preceptors for clinical interviewing courses in the medical school curriculum. The committee works closely with the psychiatric residency office at NYU. Within IPE, committee members collaborate with the Outreach and Curriculum committees. The committee is also involved in managing the PANY-IPE co-sponsored practice initiative - offering affordable psychotherapy to house staff from all departments within the medical center.
