Introduction to Psychodynamic Theory

This course addresses the fundamental elements of psychoanalytic theory with the goal to gain understanding of normal mental functioning and normal human development as well as some symptom development in psychopathology.

The core reading of this course in An Elementary Textbook of Psychoanalysis by Charles Brenner.  The class is encouraged to deepen their knowledge by reading the recommended readings at the end of each chapter, especially Freud, S.: Three Essays on Sexuality, New Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis, and The Ego and the ID.

Enclosed you will find a paperback copy of An Elementary Textbook of Psychoanalysis, by Charles Brenner, 1973: (Rev ed.) Anchor/Doubleday Publishing.  You will be charged $13.00 on your next tuition statement for this book.  If you do not need this copy, please return it to the Institute (Room CD231) the first night of classes and your tuition will be credited $13.00.
