Do you feel like your graduate training has not sufficiently prepared you to understand and work with patients? Are you interested in learning more about psychodynamic thinking but are not ready to make a commitment to formal training?
This 20-session program is designed to meet the needs of psychiatry residents, graduate students and early career clinicians interested in learning more about practice and treatment approaches in psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. The seminars have a clinical and practical focus, providing participants with an opportunity to hear and discuss case material. Most sessions are structured around a key clinical or theoretical concept and may include assigned readings.
The seminars are taught by faculty members and advanced training candidates of the Institute. At the conclusion of the Prelude program successful participants receive a letter of completion.
The program includes two private mentoring sessions with a psychodynamic clinician to help you explore your own path as a professional in the fields of psychiatry, psychology, social work and mental health.

In Treatment? How to make Gabriel Byrne a better therapist.
The upsurge in public interest in dynamic treatment due to HBO’s series In Treatment is encouraging, but we think Gabriel Byrne could use a bit more training! In this introductory session we’ll examine some popular portrayals of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, and talk about why we seek a somewhat different standard -- for the sake of our patients.
October 3: Session #2
A therapist’s journey into the world of psychodynamic thinking
A clinician describes her own path from graduate student to full-time clinician, and reflects on how her psychodynamic training has changed the way she thinks about and responds to her patients.
