Clinical Psychoanalytic Training
Psychoanalytic education is an intensive program which integrates three
essential components: Seminars in the theory and practice of psychoanalysis,
which require four years to complete; Supervised psychoanalytic treatment
of patients (cases come from the candidates private practice and /or
from the Institutes Consultation and Treatment Service); and a personal
psychoanalysis. The Institute offers training in Adult
Psychoanalysis and Child
& Adolescent Psychoanalysis. We welcome applications from psychiatrists,
psychiatric residents, psychologists, and social workers with advanced
clinical experience. The Institute Office can put you in touch with
the Director of Admissions if you want to explore eligibility for admission,
or the Director of the Education Committee to discuss the content of
the training program.

their skills. At the core of each program are weekly seminars, including
clinical case seminars that are conducted by Institute faculty members
in affiliation with the Psychoanalytic Association of New York (PANY).
The Institute faculty provide ongoing clinical psychotherapy supervision.
Successful completion of the program leads to a certificate in Psychodynamic

Fellowship in Psychoanalysis
The Institute offers a one-year fellowship
to introduce clinically-oriented professionals to analytic work and
the Institute, and to supplement their education with a clinically relevant
psychoanalytic viewpoint.
Annual Graduate Student Seminar
Each fall the Institute offers a six-week seminar
on "Introduction to Theory and Technique in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy,"
open to graduate psychology and social work students, psychiatry
residents, and mental health professionals. It will be offered next in the early spring of 2008 (March 1 - April 12).
This seminar is designed for graduate students in psychology and social work, and psychiatry residents. In the first half of the seminar we present basic tenets of theory and practice in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, including a consideration of the differences between the two. Material will include a presentation of the psychoanalytic model of the mind, the model of development, and the model of technique. The second half of the seminar will consist of the presentation of analytic case material. Didactic and case material will be presented by analysts from our faculty, Anne Erreich Ph.D., and Malini Singh, Ph.D.
Mental health professionals are also welcome to attend annual lectures
and scientific meetings of the Institute and PANY.
