Introduction to Psychodynamic Theory

This course addresses the fundamental elements of psychoanalytic theory with the goal to gain understanding of normal mental functioning and normal human development as well as some symptom development in psychopathology.

The readings for our course will come from the following two books;
1. An Elementary Textbook of Psychoanalysis by Charles Brenner
2. Textbook of Psychoanalysis by Edward Nersessian & Richard G. Kopf

You will need to purchase a paperback copy of An Elementary Textbook of Psychoanalysis, by Charles Brenner, 1973: (Rev ed.) Anchor/Doubleday Publishing.  These can be bought for $13.00 during your first class on September 15th.

Sept 15- Nersessian & Kopff chapter 2 and Brenner chapter 1 (this chapter is included on your disk)

Sept 22- Brenner chapter 2

Sept 29- Brenner chapter 3

Oct 6- Brenner chapter 4

Oct 13- Brenner Chapter 5

Oct 20- Nersessian & Kopff chapter 3

Oct 27- Nersessian & Kopff chapter 4

Nov 3- Brenner chapter 7

Nov 10- Brenner chapter 8 and Nersessian & Kopff chapter 13

Nov 17- Brenner chapters 6 & 9
