Introduction to Psychodynamic Theory

 This course addresses the fundamental elements of psychoanalytic theory with the goal to gain understanding of normal mental functioning and normal human development as well as some symptom development in psychopathology.

The readings for our course will come from the following two books;
1. An Elementary Textbook of Psychoanalysis by Charles Brenner
2. Textbook of Psychoanalysis by Edward Nersessian & Richard G. Kopf

You will need to purchase a paperback copy of An Elementary Textbook of Psychoanalysis, by Charles Brenner, 1973: (Rev ed.) Anchor/Doubleday Publishing.  These can be bought for $13.00 during your first class on September 9th.

Sept 9- Nersessian & Kopff chapter 2 and Brenner chapter 1 (this chapter is included on your disk)

Sept 16- Brenner chapter 2

Sept 23- Brenner chapter 3

Sept 30- Brenner chapter 4

Oct 7- Brenner Chapter 5

Oct 14- Nersessian & Kopff chapter 3

Oct 21- Nersessian & Kopff chapter 4

Oct 28- Brenner chapter 7

Nov 4- Brenner chapter 8 and Nersessian & Kopff chapter 13
