Dr. Samuel H. Sigal is Associate Professor of Medicine and Surgery at the NYU School of Medicine, and Clinical Director of Hepatology in the Division of Gastroenterology and Co-Director of Transplant Hepatology in the Department of Surgery at Tisch Hospital, NYU Langone Medical Center
Board certified in both Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology, Dr. Sigal provides state-of-the-art care in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of liver diseases, including chronic liver disease, hepatitis B and C, cirrhosis, fatty liver disease, and liver cancer. Dr. Sigal is a renowned expert in liver transplantation, and in addressing the complex medical needs of men and women with chronic or serious liver disease.
Dr. Sigal's research interests focus on the treatment of liver disease, such as cirrhosis, hepatitis, hepatorenal syndrome, hepatic encephalopathy, and ascites. He has contributed numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters to the Gastroenterology and Hepatology scientific literature.
Selected to the New York Times Magazine's "New York Super Doctors" for the past 5 years (2008-2012), Dr. Sigal is a fellow of the American College of Gatroenterology, and a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and the American Gastroenterological Association.
Dr. Sigal received his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He served a residency in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and in Medicine at St. Luke's Hospital, New York City. He completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and his fellowship in Liver Diseases at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City.
