Clinical Responsibilities

The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology focuses on the comprehensive evaluation and care of infants, children and young adults with the broad spectrum of conditions affecting the intestinal tract. Esophageal reflux, celiac disease, and inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn and colitis), and chronic pain and other functional disorders are of special interest. Feeding difficulties in infants can result in failure to thrive and require prompt investigation and empathetic involvement, addressing the needs of the whole family and providing support and anticipatory guidance. Congenital anomalies such as esophageal atresia or anorectal malformations have a long lasting effect on feeding and evacuation functions, and require integrated, multi-disciplinary intervention. We provide consultation for children with autism spectrum disorder who often manifest challenging chronic digestive problems and require expert nutritional advice.

Gastric electrophysiology. Development of the electrogastrogram (EGG) as a diagnostic tool in pediatric patients. Celiac Disease. Optimizing information sharing about the gluten-free diet and developing successful strategies for maintenance of the diet at home and in school. Nutritional and gastrointestinal issues in children on the Autism Spectrum Disorders. identification and systematicevaluation of possible underlying GI medical issues affecting behavior in this vulnerable population.
