Clinical Responsibilities

Dr. Chu is Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery. She has dual appointments in the Division of Pediatric Orthopaedics as well as the Division of Hand Surgery. Her two main research and clinical areas are in pediatric upper extremity surgery and clubfoot. Pediatric Upper Extremity: Disabling and disfiguring conditions can occur as a result of trauma, cerebral palsy, brain or spinal cord injury, congenital syndromes, or brachial plexus birth palsy. Every child has unique needs, and Dr. Chu will work with you and your child to determine an operative or non-operative treatment plan that is best suited to the individual. The Center for Children at NYU-Hospital for Joint Diseases has dedicated pediatric occupational therapists, neurologists, rheumatologists, and radiologists who will work together as a team to ensure the best possible result. Clubfoot: More than a decade ago, the Clubfoot Center at NYU-HJD (headed by Dr. Wallace Lehman) became one of the earliest proponents of the Ponseti method for clubfoot correction. The Ponseti method, a non-operative treatment method that consists of weekly cast applications and bracing, has completely altered the manner in which clubfoot is treated worldwide. The Clubfoot Center's success rate for initial correction in young infants is greater than 98%. Currently it is one of the only dedicated clubfoot centers in the country and remains a national leader in research and publications. Dr. Chu is the Associate Director of the Clubfoot Center (now the NY Ponseti Clubfoot Center).
