Dr. Lea Ann Chen is an Instructor in Medicine at the NYU School of Medicine and is an attending gastroenterologist at Tisch Hospital, NYU Langone Medical Center.
Dr. Chen's clinical practice is focused on the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and in the use of fecal microbial transplant to treat recurrent or refractory C difficile infection. Dr. Chen's research interests include inflammatory bowel disease as well as the "gut microbiome"-or the bacterial community present in the gastrointestinal system-and its relationship to the potential prevention and treatment of disease.
Dr. Chen is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and American Gastroenterological Association, and has published several papers and a book chapter on topics such as inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer screening, and gastrointestinal bacteria.
Dr. Chen received her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, and her fellowship in Gastroenterology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
