Dr. Lea Ann Chen is an Instructor in Medicine at the NYU School of Medicine and is an attending gastroenterologist at Tisch Hospital, NYU Langone Medical Center.
Dr. Chen's clinical practice is focused on patients with all types of gastrointestinal conditions, including inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Dr. Chen is also dedicated to performing screening colonoscopy procedures for the early detection and prevention of colorectal cancer. Her research interests include study of the "gut microbiome"-or the mix of bacteria that are present in the gastrointestinal system-and its relationship to the potential prevention and treatment of disease.
Dr. Chen is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and American Gastroenterological Association, and has published several papers and a book chapter on topics such as inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer screening, and gastrointestinal bacteria.
Dr. Chen received her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, and her fellowship in Gastroenterology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
