Clinical Responsibilities

Dr. Aizer is a cardiologist who specializes in the treatment of abnormal heart rhythms (Electrophysiology). He performs simple and complex ablations (procedures that eliminate these abnormal heart rhythms). His ablation procedures are focused on atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachcyardias. In addition, he performs pacemaker and defibrillator implantations (ICDs), including devices to improve heart failure symptoms (biventricular ICDs). He also performs device removal procedures (device extractions) using laser and other unique extraction technologies. His office practice includes patients with these arrhythmias, as well as patients with other arrhythmias, including cardaic sarcoidosis.

Research Summary

The majority of my research focuses on atrial fibrillation, an arrhythmia affecting greater than 2 million Americans, causing heart failure and strokes. I study the effects of lifestyle choices on the development of atrial fibrillation, as well as novel catheter ablation strategies to cure atrial fibrillation. Other research includes optimizing ICD implantation and programming to maximize patient survival and quality of life. In addition, some of my research is on ways to prevent sudden death form life-threatening arrhythmias in cardiac sarcoidosis.
