For patients and families who prefer to communicate in a language other than English, NYU Langone Medical Center can provide professional interpreters at no cost to you. Interpreters can help you talk with your doctors, nurses, therapists and can interpret for you when you are having a test or procedure done.
If an interpreter is not available for a last minute need or emergency, the staff will use our 24 hour telephone interpreting service.
If there is important written information that you need in your preferred language, we may be able to have it translated for you or will have an interpreter and a member of your healthcare team available to help you understand.
To ask for an interpreter, please call Language Access Services Office at (212) 263-3762. If you need to speak with someone in Spanish, press #2. If you need to speak to someone in Mandarin or Cantonese, please press #3. If you need an interpreter for another language, please leave a message and someone will call you back.
If you, a family member or loved one communicate using a sign language, the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Program can provide you with a certified sign language interpreter at no cost to you. For services or more information, please text message or email dhhp@nyumc.org [1] or call (212) 263-0101.
