Clinical Education Overview and Schedules

Rehabilitation medicine residency at NYU School of Medicine is a three-year ACGME accredited program providing broad exposure to all areas of the specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

The residency program at Rusk Institute, New York University Medical Center, was founded in 1948 by Howard A. Rusk. Considered the father of comprehensive rehabilitation medicine it is Rusk's philosophy - treating the entire person, an individual with emotional, psychological, and social needs, not just the illness or disability - that is passed from generation to generation of graduating Rusk residents. Several physicians who are children of past graduates have completed the program over the years.

The residency at NYU is one of the largest training program in physical medicine and rehabilitation in the world, with a total of 41 residents who come from medical schools across the country.

Residents are admitted for PGY-2 positions starting July of each year. Although the exact sequence of rotations may vary, a typical three-year rotation will include:
