Didactic Program and Clinical Responsibilities: medical students will spend the 1st and 4th weeks at the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (RIRM) working on both inpatient teams (Stroke, Medically Complex, Musculoskeletal, Cardiac and Pediatrics Services) and outpatient clinics (Spasticity and Muscular Dystrophy Clinics). The 2nd week will be spent at Bellevue hospital where the student will gain exposure to inpatient traumatic brain injury medicine, outpatient musculoskeletal clinics, and electrodiagnostic medicine. The 3rd week may be split between the Manhattan VA Hospital and Hospital for Joint Diseases. The Manhattan VA has a small inpatient service, as well as outpatient musculoskeletal clinics and an EMG lab. Interested students may also gain experience fabricating prosthetics and orthotics in the hospital’s P&O lab. The Hospital for Joint Diseases has a large inpatient musculoskeletal and orthopedic rehabilitation service, as well as opportunities for observing various pain management procedures.
