Director of Research

Tamara_Bushnik

Dr. Bushnik is the Director of Research and an Associate Professor at Rusk Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine/NYU Langone Medical Center since August 2009. She maintains a role as  a co-investigator of the Northern California TBIMS of Care at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

Dr. Bushnik’s research interests lie in the area of community integration and independent living, approaching this research from a multidisciplinary perspective. She has 29 peer-reviewed rehabilitation publications, of which 24 are focused on TBI and many national and local presentations. Dr. Bushnik has been a reviewer for Archives of PM&R, Am J PM&R, J Head Trauma Rehabilitation, and Brain Injury. She was invited to speak, as an outside consultant, about the TBIMS National Database as part of the TBI Summit held at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda MD (September 18-20, 2006). She is also a member of the National Center for the Dissemination of Rehabilitation Research Task Force on Systematic Review and Guidelines. For the past 10 years she has been Chair of the TBIMS Dissemination Committee and is past Chair of the TBIMS Executive Advisory Board. She was Program Co-Chair in the highly successful 2nd Federal Interagency Conference on TBI held in March 2006 in Bethesda MD and is the Program Chair for the planned 3rd Federal Interagency Conference on TBI in Spring 2011.

She has been a member of ACRM for almost eleven years. In 2005/6, she became the ACRM Program Chair and, by invitation of each incoming president, continues to serve in that position through the 2009 annual conference. She is the Vice-President for ACRM and was awarded the Fellow of ACRM in 2009 and the Distinguished Member award in 2008.
