Richard Donoghue

Senior Vice President for Strategic Planning and Business Development

Richard (Rick) J. Donoghue, senior vice president for strategy, planning and business development at NYU Langone Medical Center, is responsible for the integration of strategic initiatives at the Medical Center and NYU School of Medicine.  He is also responsible for the medical malpractice program and managed care contracting at NYU Langone.  Since his arrival in 1990, Mr. Donoghue has worked in a variety of positions including chief financial officer, chief information officer and head of the Merger Office, responsible for the integration of NYU Hospitals Center with Mount Sinai Hospital and the subsequent dissolution of that union.

Prior to joining NYU Langone, Mr. Donoghue spent 16 years in consulting and public accounting, including five years as a partner with Ernst & Young.  Mr. Donoghue is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) and has a master of science (MS) and bachelor of business administration (BBA) from Adelphi University.  He served on the Healthcare Financial Management Association’s National Principles & Practices Board, including three years as its chair, as well as the chair of the NYSCPA Healthcare Institutions Committee.  For the last 14 years, Mr. Donoghue has served as a technical editor for the Healthcare Financial Management Association’s hfm magazine. He has also served as an adjunct lecturer for the University of Miami, where he taught a graduate course in hospital financial management.
