Endometriosis Resection
(Maximum removal of pelvic
endometriosis)
Few gynecologists, if they have performed a "diagnostic"
laparoscopy for your pelvic pain, will perform the necessary biopsies
to prove or disprove the presence of endometriosis.
This leaves many patients in the difficult position of deciding
whether to have repeat surgery for diagnosis and resection with
a more experienced laparoscopic surgeon or attmpting medical therapy
with many side effects.
There are only a few hundred gynecologic surgeons in the world
who have the expertise and experience to operate on deep pelvic
endometriosis. This is endometriosis that is located deep in the
pelvis in between the vagina
and rectum, possibly involving the bowel or bladder.
Removing the endometriosis from these areas require laparoscopic
expertise and great care. Dr.
Levey and the team at NYU have this experience and expertise.
Dr. Levey works with minimally invasive surgeons from other areas
such as general surgery (Dr.
Mary Ann Hopkins) and urology to maximize your outcome, pain
control, and safety of your surgery.
