Dear Patient,

Welcome to NYU Comprehensive Gynecology Associates and Pelvic Pain Center. Your physician has referred you for evaluation and management of pelvic pain. We understand you have been in pain for a long time.

In the evaluation and management of your pelvic pain, we use an approach that is both stepwise and interdisciplinary. In addition to coordinating care with doctors you are already seeing, you should expect to be referred to other doctors on the interdisciplinary pain management team at NYU. This includes anesthesiologists, internists, neurologists, physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists, psychologists, psychiatrists, gastroenterologists, physical therapists, and acupuncturists.

For the first visit, please bring as many records as you can gather. You should expect to be in the office for approximately two hours for the initial evaluation. The initial evaluation is very thorough; please be patient.

Most importantly, you should remember, pain that has been present for a long time often takes a long time to improve significantly. We will work with you in every way possible to present therapies that are acceptable to you and your lifestyle, and together we can find a way to improve both your general pain and your quality of life.
