Why should I refer patients to Dr. Levey and the team at the NYU
Chronic Pelvic Pain Center?
The NYU Pelvic Pain Center has a proven track record of success
in diagnosing and managing female chronic pelvic pain patients.
At a recent (August 2004) meeting of the International
Pelvic Pain Society , Dr. Levey presented outcomes data. Over
a period of 208 days, 70% of patients got 50% relief. This was
statistically significant after visit #2 and the association only
strengthened through visit #5.
The NYU Chronic Pelvic Pain Center is a virtual center. Associated
physicians and providers of adjunctive therapies work throughout
the NYU community. A close association has been developed with
the NYU Pain
Management Center under the direction of Dr.
Michel Dubois. Associations have been developed with multiple
providers of pelvic floor physical therapy both at NYU and throughout
the community. The center is affiliated with a gastroenterologist,
neurologist, rheumatologist, urogynecologist, physiatrists, psycholgists,
psychiatrists, and an acupuncturist. Additionally, the center
has established relationships with other pelvic pain centers around
the country (Houston, TX; University of Rochester; University
of North Carolina; Mobile, AL; Brown University) for consultation
and management of difficult cases.
When you refer a patient to the NYU Chronic
Pelvic Pain Center, you can be assured your patient will get a
comprehensive evaluation and carefully developed, individualized
multidisciplinary management plan.

If I refer a patient, will I ever see that patient back again?
As a gynecologist, Dr. Levey understands the importance of maintaining
continuity with your patients. The Pelvic Pain Center is a referral
center, and while we do see some routine gynecology patients,
if a patient is reffered from a gynecologist every effort is made
to ensure that the patient stays with her primary gynecologist
for continuing routine gynecology care. Providers with whom patients
have an established relationship are considered an important part
of the multidisciplinary care team.

What do I need to do to refer a patient?
Simply give the patient the office number
(212) 263 - 7203.
No prescription is required.
It is very helpful when the patient comes with as many relevant
records as possible (pathology, imaging, operative reports, prior
medications).
