Clinical Education Program Perinatal Services

The objectives for rotations through the delivery room and neonatal services at Tisch Hospital and the Level I Nursery at Bellevue Hospital include those cited for In-Patient Services as well as the recognition and differential diagnosis of multiple organ-system dysfunction due to prematurity, congenital or perinatally acquired disorders.

Cognitive competencies also include all those cited for In-Patient Services with the addition of advanced neonatal life support, and the identification and appropriate delivery-room triage of the high-risk infant.

Technical competencies are expanded to include procedures necessary to stabilize ill neonates and manage common perinatal problems such as endotracheal intubation, ventilator management, chest tube placement, and umbilical arterial and venous catheterization.
