Clinical Education Program Emergency Services

Emergency ServicesRotations through the pediatric emergency service (PES) focus on the initial evaluation and treatment of acute and/or potentially life-threatening medical, surgical or psychiatric conditions.
Clinical exposures in the PES run the gamut from common episodic conditions such as febrile seizures to life-threatening disorders such as penetrating trauma.

The educational objectives of these rotations include the recognition of the acutely ill infant, child, or adolescent, and the application of principles of emergency triage and stabilization.

Cognitive competencies include pediatric advanced life support, trauma care, and conscious sedation.

Technical competencies include a wide variety of procedures essential for the development of the complete pediatric generalist including lumbar puncture, suturing of simple lacerations, and splinting.
