Pediatric Oncology Mission Statement

The mission of the Pediatric Oncology program at NYU Medical Center is to provide comprehensive, compassionate patient care of the highest quality for children and adolescents with cancer, incorporating innovative and multidisciplinary research and education.

It is the intended goal of the program to address the program mission in the following manner:

Patient Care

  • State of the art and beyond medical treatment for all childhood cancers with an emphasis on the unique expertise and experience in the treatment of specific cancers.

  • Psychosocial assessment and therapeutic intervention for the enhancement of quality of life for patients and their families.

  • Integrated team approach to insure continuity of care.

Research

  • Development of and participation in multi-institutional and international treatment protocols.

  • Conduct and particpate in research into the causation and prevention of childhood cancer.

  • Conduct and participate in research into the psychosocial impact of childhood cancer and its treatment.

Education

  • Training of the varied professional disciplines involved in the care of patients with childhood cancers.

  • Enrichment of staff ability to function optimally.

  • Serve as an authoritative source of information about childhood cancer to the community and health care professionals.

  • Family education to enable adaptation to the changing needs of the family system.
