Neonatology Medical Student Education

The Division of Neonatology at NYU Langone offers educational opportunities in neonatal medicine to medical students: a clerkship that provides exposure to care in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and a summer scholars program for neonatal research. Premedical students may also apply for the division’s summer scholars program.

Neonatal–Perinatal Clerkship

The neonatal–perinatal clerkship provides medical students with clinical exposure in the NICU at Tisch Hospital and the delivery room.

An additional rotation through the NICU at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue gives students well-rounded exposure to different patient populations, pathologies, and team structures. The curriculum covers essential NICU topics through small-group didactics, student case and topic presentations, and mock codes. The attending physician provides weekly feedback.

For more information about the neonatology–perinatal clerkship, contact Lakesha N. Baker, pediatrics clerkship administrator, at lakesha.baker@nyulangone.org.

Jack Cary Eichenbaum Summer Scholars Program

The Jack Cary Eichenbaum Summer Scholars Program is an eight-week program that offers students opportunity to participate in neonatology research projects and clinical and observational rotations. Students are paired with a physician and a neonatal–perinatal fellow who serve as mentors. Learn more about the Jack Cary Eichenbaum Summer Scholars Program.
