Bellevue is one of the larger and more respected municipal hospitals in North America, and the cornerstone of training for NYU's pediatric residency program. Each year, its approximately 2500 pediatric inpatients, 2200 births, and 80,000 pediatric outpatient visits provide a diverse and busy learning environment for house staff. Bellevue has 32 medical/surgical inpatient beds for children, pediatric and neonatal intensive care units with a total of 30 beds, and a clinical research unit.
Bellevue Ambulatory Care Service
Bellevue's outpatient services are extremely comprehensive. Multidisciplinary teams of general and subspecialty attending physicians, child life specialists, social workers, public health nurses, nutritionists, nurse practitioners, dentists, psychiatrists, and psychologists work with residents to provide truly complete care to children from multi-problem families. The dynamic Pediatric Emergency Service (PES) is a 911 receiving unit staffed by full-time Pediatric Emergency Medicine Attending Physicians and PEM Fellows, and evaluates children from melting pot that is New York City. Infants, children, and teenagers coming to PES may need care for severe trauma, poisoning, or one of a multitude of infectious diseases.
