Division of General Pediatrics

Experts in the Division of General Pediatrics at NYU Langone Health provide healthcare services for children in the outpatient, newborn nursery, and inpatient settings at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue and in primary care practices in the community.

The division’s primary care pediatrics faculty treat patients and supervise medical students and residents in Bellevue’s pediatric clinic and in private practices in the community. Bellevue’s pediatric clinic provides comprehensive primary and specialty care to an underserved patient population in New York City and serves as the continuity of care site for pediatrics residents at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.

Faculty in the division’s Child Protection Program provide evaluations of child abuse and neglect at the Frances L. Loeb Child Protection and Development Center at Bellevue and at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital—34th Street, and also train medical students and pediatrics residents and fellows.

The division offers educational opportunities for medical students and residents. For fellows, the two-year fellowship in academic general pediatrics provides physicians who have completed an accredited pediatric residency with a rigorous program of research training through NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s Population Health Science Scholars Program. Fellows design and carry out mentored research, complete the MS in Clinical Investigation program, supervise trainees, provide direct clinical care in ambulatory and inpatient settings, and hone their medical education and advocacy skills.

Funded research in the Division of General Pediatrics focuses on a range of topics, including assessing and mitigating the impact of healthcare disparities and poverty on child health, primary care–based initiatives to optimize early child development and prevent obesity, health literacy–informed improvements in healthcare communication, optimizing postoperative pain management, and implementing quality improvement initiatives in the inpatient setting.
