This is a training program which combines courses
taken at the Sackler
Institute and laboratory rotations. It provides a grounding
in basic lab skills and research work to facilitate advancement
to a PhD. You will take a first year consisting of lectures and
3 lab rotations. The lab rotations can be taken in any research
group, not just those in the Medical Parasitology Department. At
the end of the first year, you select a lab in which to complete
your PhD.
At the end of your second year, you will take an
exam for advancement to PhD candidacy and give a formal thesis proposal
presentation, read by your pre-thesis advisory committee with whom
you will meet at least once per year until thesis work is completed.
You will also be able to attend department
seminars, participate in the Graduate Student Journal Club and
the Research-In-Progress Club, and attend seminars
in any areas of interest throughout NYU and other institutions in
the metropolitan area.
This program is funded through an NIH training grant,
and is administered through the Sackler Institute. Both the program
Director and Graduate Advisor are researchers based in our Department.
