The emphasis in post-doctoral training is on the planning, execution, and analysis
of basic laboratory research. In addition, you will be given the opportunity to
assist in the direction of graduate student research projects and to participate
in the Graduate Student
Journal Club if you wish to. You will also present the results of your research
at the Work-In-Progress
Club and participate in national and international meetings when appropriate.

NYU AIDS Institutional Training Grant
The program aims to provide in-depth training in basic research on AIDS
and HIV infection to those with PhD and/or MD degrees who intend to follow
academic careers in research laboratories and/or in clinical departments,
and is run through the Sackler Institute. Medical Parasitology

Allen Clarkson and Dr
Salim Merali are involved with the grant and are working on characterizing
unique aspects of the cell biology of Pneumocystis carinii, one of
the most common opportunistic infections associated with AIDS, in an effort
to find novel drug targets.
The program is designed for scientists who have completed their doctorates,
for physicians who have received appropriate clinical training and are ready
to embark on a career of research, and for MD/PhD's who have completed at
least one year of post-graduate clinical experience.
To be eligible, either permanent residence in the United States or citizenship
is required
