EICHINGER LAB - Molecular Biology of Entamoeba
histolytica
Current Lab Members:
Mark
Gage is a Chemistry major from NYU. When not running marathons,
playing lacrosse or visiting Florida, he uses Dictyostelium
to express Entamoeba receptors for ligand identification.
He will attend NYU School of Medicine in Fall 2007.
Daniella
Kovacsics is a PhD student who joined the lab in
2006. She obtained her BS in Biology from PACE University where
she studied drug efflux pumps of bacteria. She is now on the
trail of 7tm domain receptors from Entamoeba and Dictyostelium
that are involved in differentiation.
Arthi
Krishnappa is an Assistant Research Scientist.
She has a MS degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology. In addition
to carrying out a range of defined experiments on Entamoeba
encystation, she maintains the cultures of the multiple strains
of Entamoeba that are used in the lab.
Biswa
Mitra is a postdoctoral fellow who joined the lab
in 2007. He obtained his PhD in Biochemistry and Biophysics
from Tsukuba Univ, Japan, and spent several years as a postdoc
at Gunma Univ. School of Medicine. He now studies mechanisms
that regulate entry into and exit from the cyst stage of Entamoeba.
Paloma
Vargas is a PhD student who joined the lab in 2006.
She obtained her BS in Biology from the Univ. of Texas, El Paso
where she studied upregulation of proteins in migrating monarchs.
She is now examining histone modification and regulation of
translation in Entamoeba.
