The NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases Department of Orthopaedic Surgery provides orthopaedic surgical care at the Veterans Affairs New York Harbor Healthcare System hospital located at 423 East 23rd Street. This facility features a state-of-the-art surgical facility, an ambulatory surgery program, an emergency unit, outpatient clinics, and a surgical specialty program.
The VA Orthopaedic Service performs inpatient, same-day-admission surgery and ambulatory surgery on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Emergency surgery is performed whenever necessary. More than 200 surgical procedures are performed annually by NYU HJD physicians at the VA. Physicians in the VA Service perform hand, hip, knee, and shoulder reconstruction, joint replacement, and arthroscopic surgery. Fracture surgery includes hip, ankle, foot, and all upper extremity problems.
The VA Service also enjoys excellent social service support and maintains a close liaison with the VA's rehabilitation service.
