Laith M. Jazrawi assumed the role of Chief of the Division of Sports Medicine on September 1, 2009.
Dr. Jazrawi has made important contributions to the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery since he joined the faculty in 2002. Prior to that time, he completed the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Residency Program including a one year basic science and research fellowship in the Musculoskeletal Research Center. He joined the Department following the completion of a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute with James Andrews MD.
Over the past seven years he has distinguished himself in the important areas of clinical care, research and education. He developed the arthroscopy laboratory and has been successful in instituting an arthroscopic skills training program for residents and fellows. In addition, as the Director of the Shoulder and Elbow Research Lab, he has continued to develop a wide range of basic science and clinical research projects for the Division of Sports Medicine and the Division of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
The Department would like to express appreciation to outgoing Division Chief Orrin Sherman MD for his leadership and commitment to the Deoartment over the past ten years.
