The NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is happy to announce the creation of a new Center that will focus on patients with problem fractures and conditions that impede proper bone healing. The Bone Healing Center at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases, led by Kenneth Egol, MD, Chief of the Trauma Division, consists of a team of subspecialists that include orthopaedic trauma surgeons, rheumatologists, endocrinologists, pain management specialists, musculoskeletal radiologists and pediatric specialists.
“It is very important that a patient with a fracture that has not healed properly be seen by a multidisciplinary team that can evaluate the patient’s entire health history and recommend the best treatment plan,” says Dr. Egol, Director of the Bone Healing Center.
The Center will treat patients with fracture non-unions, delayed unions, malunited fractures, osteoporosis, osteomyelitis, metabolic bone disorders, stress fractures, fragility fractures, insufficiency fractures, and limb length discrepancies. Among the novel treatments being offered patients may receive stem cell treatments, electronic bone stimulation, bone morphogenic proteins, platelet rich plasma therapy, ultrasound therapy and other cutting-edge treatments for the treatment of fractures.
