Training Hospitals

During the three years of residency, ophthalmology residents rotate through several different hospitals:

Each hospital has a unique character and patient base, providing our residents with an extremely diverse and comprehensive experience in ophthalmology.

New York University Medical Center (Tisch Hospital)

The Department of Ophthalmology at Tisch Hospital encompasses an active faculty practice, with ophthalmologic surgery and laser procedures performed at the Medical Center on a daily basis. Second-year residents rotate through Tisch Hospital, seeing inpatient and emergency room consults, as well as assisting private attendings in the operating room. More information...

Bellevue Hospital Center

The School of Medicine supervises all care and treatment for about 26,000 inpatients, more than 370,000 outpatients and approximately 100,000 emergency room visits a year. Patient care at Bellevue Hospital is resident-directed, with residents managing the care of their patients under attending supervision

In April 2005, Bellevue opened a new Ambulatory Care Center featuring a state-of-the-art eye clinic equipped with digital slit lamp/retina photography, OCT, ultrasonography, a minor OR room, HVF, argon and YAG lasers, and corneal topography. The Bellevue rotations are where the senior ophthalmology residents receive the bulk of their surgical volume and training. More information...

Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital

Clinics and surgeries at the VA Hospital are primarily resident-run with attending supervision, as well as with the assistance of full-time optometrists . In the ophthalmology clinics, residents encounter the full range of ophthalmic pathology, seen in primary patients and in patients referred from other VA hospitals in the New York area. Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital (MEETH)

Residents manage complex patients in the general and subspecialty clinics and interact with MEETH's nationally and internationally renowned ophthalmologists. More information...

Lenox Hill Hospital

Ophthalmology service and surgeries at Lenox Hill are now generally directed to MEETH except for emergency and inpatient services. Residents rotating at MEETH also cover inpatient and emergency room consults from Lenox Hill Hospital. More information...

Woodhull Medical Center

Woodhull Medical Center is the hospital of choice for residents of North Brooklyn, including Bushwick, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bedford Stuyvesant, and Fort Greene.
