NYU Department of Ophthalmology Residency Program
Message from the Chairman
On July 1, 2000 the Ophthalmology residency program at New York University School of Medicine was expanded when the Manhattan Eye, Ear, & Throat Hospital became an additional site. This addition created one of the largest and most comprehensive residency programs in the United States. It also joined two diverse institutions with rich and long histories between them, each of which brought new strengths and cohesion to the residency education.
Our program is a center for excellence in Cataract/Anterior Segment, Cornea, Glaucoma, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Oculoplastic Surgery, Medical and Surgical Therapies for Retinal Disease, and Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. Many of the pioneering treatments for the management of eye diseases were discovered and studied at our institutions, and our aggressive growth into future technologies continues.
Ophthalmologists from around the world have completed some or all of their training at our institutions, and continue to contribute to our rich history. For the motivated, dedicated resident applicant looking for mastery of ophthalmology, I truly believe there is no more comprehensive or diverse program for training.
