Ergonomics Advanced Certificate Program Requirements & Admissions

We are currently not accepting applications to our Advanced Certificate Program in Ergonomics for fall 2023 but invite you to learn more about our program. Please check back for updates.

The nondegree Advanced Certificate Program in Ergonomics, housed in NYU Langone Occupational and Industrial Orthopedic Center, requires the successful completion of 12 points of coursework:

  • EHSC-GA 2131 Ergonomics Issues I: Physical Factors in the Workplace
  • EHSC-GA 2132 Ergonomics Issues II: Environmental Factors in the Workplace
  • EHSC-GA 2133 Applied Ergonomic Methods: Independent Study

See course descriptions for more information.

We make admission decisions for the Advanced Certificate Program in Ergonomics using the following criteria:

  • a bachelor’s degree
  • a CV outlining your work experience (professional, internships, or volunteer)
  • at least two references to verify your work experience
  • a statement of purpose, including a topic for the applied methods project
  • a personal interview, if requested by the admissions committee

Applicants should possess at least three years of practical experience in the field of occupational safety and health, or a related field such as risk management and loss, human resources, or industrial design.

In addition, the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) General Test is required. You may request a waiver of the GRE® requirement if you hold a master’s or a doctoral degree, or if you have three or more years of relevant professional experience with a demonstrable research component. If you choose to apply later to the MS in Ergonomics and Biomechanics, the GRE General Test is required.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for all applicants who are not native English speakers.

Applications are accepted on an open basis for admission for the fall semester only. You apply through the Graduate School of Arts and Science (GSAS) at NYU. Learn more about admission to GSAS, including the GSAS application resource center, information for international applicants, and tuition and fee rates.
